Here's a tip for playing django style octaves:

Even though you use your left hand second finger to mute the lower strings, your pinky to mute higher strings and your first finger to mute strings in between the strings you intend to play, try to hit the right strings with your pick. Just kind of aim for those strings. This will clean up your sound and because you are muting other strings you don't have to be really exact all the time, but just try to be!
